Flickr Droid 2.3.0

Hey everyone,

I’ve just released the newest update to the app.  It mainly fixes a few issues that have been found with the app.

One issue that people have noticed is that you are unable to view your private photos when you choose “View My Photos”.  I’ve updated that section, and you will now be able to view your entire photostream when authenticated.

Another change  to the app is that it has been translated to German and Spanish.  If your phone’s language is set to Spanish or German, all the text in the app will show up in your native language.  The app will be translated to other languages in future updates.

There is still one major outstanding issue with uploading photos from this app.  There have been a few users that have noted that the app Force Closes when they try to use that function.  Some users get this error when they are in the Gallery and choose “Share” on the specific photo they want to upload.  Others get the error when they go to the apps homescreen and choose “Uload a Photo”.  Either way, I have been unable to reproduce the issue in test environments.  The app has been tested in all versions of Android (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1), so I’m guessing the issue is due to the hardware.

I have added code in this version that will catch any errors experienced in this section and give the user a chance to email the developer the details of the issue.  This will help me analyze what is going wrong on user’s phones, and quickly fix the issue.

Thanks again for using the Flickr Droid.  I always appreciate comments, ideas, suggestions, and any other form of communication about the app!

ChangeLog:

v 2.3.0
– took away the Loading bar when moving between photos in DisplaySinglePhotoTabs
– Localized app for German and Spanish
– fixed the issue of not being able to view private photos in the “My Photos” section
– Still am unable to reproduce the issue some people have been having with the “Upload Photo” section.
- It’s been said that there is a FC right when they enter this section, often when going into the gallery and choosing to share a photo.
- others say they have an issue when going to the Flickr Droid homescreen and choosing “Upload Photo” (they get an immediate FC)
- I’ve tested the code in emulators for each firmware (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1) and am unable to reproduce
- I know that the issue has happened on the Nexus, but don’t know what would be different than the test environments
- I’ve added code to throw exceptions at every point that would cause an error
-these errors will be caught and added to an email to be sent to the developer for review, if that option is choosen

I’m on Nexus One: I just upgraded the app, but the upload crash bug it still there. I couldn’t find any way to send debug email.

    Hi,

Very nice to see that you solved the problem with private photos so quickly. Good work :)

Now when that is resolved, I discovered another problem. When I want to see “my sets/collections”, it is very difficult to understand which set/collection is which. Nor can I see all of my sets there. Private issue even here? I think a text to every set should make it less confusing.

Grateful for the time you spend on the application. I believe that it will become very good and useful.

    • Henrik,

Thanks for the note. I have noticed this problem as well, and I will address it for the next update. I think I will be making the friend section and the sets / collections area into lists. This will alow me to display the name of the friend / set / collection, as well as expand the list to as long as needed. I’ll see how quick I can get this update out.

I’m also planning a few features in the next updates, such as voice search of photos, zooming, 3d transition between photos, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hope you enjoy the app!

      Mike

I can’t find this in the Android Market on my new AT&T Nexus One. Any idea why not? Thanks!

Hey i’ve just installed and love this….i’m a total flickr junky and this is the best app i’ve tried. One problem i do get is when i go into the my contacts section it only shows me one screen of contacts and no way to scroll or filter (htc magic 1.6)…….a feature i would love is to filter contacts to just friends & family etc.

Also noticded when viewing comments there is no way to view who left the comment.

    Keep up the good work

I’m with Stuart from a month ago. Same issues. And to expound on the contacts section, the single page of contacts doesn’t allow me to view a single contact’s images — all contacts’ on the page are served.(HTC Incredible).

From the looks of things you haven’t done an upgrade since Feb 2010. 3 comments before this one went unanswered.

Are you still around and supporting this app? I didn’t care that about uploading images so much. There are plenty of apps that do that. What I was expecting from Flickr Droid was a mini-client that enabled me to view, comment, download and follow my contact’s photostreams and favorites — much better than the browser did.

24 hour return policy on MarketPlace doesn’t leave me much choice since you’ve apparently given up on this app.

It showed lots of promise. My suggestion above differentiates you from the others — who are concerned about uploaders. Again, not important to me, possibly a lot more. If I’m uploading … I’m doing it from my home workstation after I’ve run it through some cleanup in Lightroom or Photoshop.

Hi, thanks for this app. It’s good, basically, but has some niggles. One thing that rather bugs me is the three tabs when viewing images. On my Xperia (with a pretty large screen), the tabs are huge, with small text floating inside. That means a lot of the image viewing space is taken up by the tabs, not the image. My guess is, you’ve set the tab size to be a percentage of the screen and this size is fine for phones with small screens. But on the Xperia they clearly waste a lot of the screen space we have.

Should probably set the tabs to be proportional to the text size instead, and preferably also an option to remove the tabs altogether so the user can view the image as large as possible.

Just tried flickr droid. Very nice app.

A few ideas and suggestions from me. :)

I think it’d be a lot easier to use if the starting activity looked more like the facebook and twitter apps.

A fullscreen slideshow mode for viewing images.

Don’t know if it is possible, but wouldn’t a recent activity view be useful? Comments, contact uploads and such.

Contact integration, with a flickr link that opens the the contact activity in flickr droid.

One more thing. What is the NotificationService for? If it is for polling the server there really should be an option for how often it should poll and to disable it.

  8. Ash says:

Great product! I have been using it for a while now.
Is EXIF support in the roadmap? It would be cool to upload EXIF info as well, to do some automatic geotagging.

    Thanks!
    -Ash

  9. Aron Duby says:

I’m wondering the same thing as Ash, any chance we can get auto geo data on the upload?
Also wondering about integration into the built in share menu of the camera app

  10. Karl says:

Just tried Flickr Droid for the Droid X. I tried uploading photos already on the phone–no go. Nothing happens. I click on “upload photo” and–nada. Sorry, but I unistalled the app.

  11. Gari says:

Seems that Orange blocked access to the Market for my HTC Tattoo, and I can’t install Flickr droid. Any chance to find a direct link to the app file?

  12. Francisco Aragao says:

    Hi,

How can i upload a pic in “private” mode, that is, i upload a pic but it is visible only for me?

    thanx!!

  13. Ludovic says:

I’ve been hitting the issue when uplaoding, but didn’t get a chance to email you details as this was’nt given to me.

When trying to just upload it mumbles something about the size of the picture being 0. Taking the picture from Flickr droid and uploading leads to the same issue. Anything you would like me to do to help you figure out what the issue is ?

It worked in the end when I shared from the gallery.

  14. Ludovic says:

So I don’t get the option to enable an email to be sent – how does that activate so I can send you crash repports !
